Term

Description

A

ACCESS LEVELS

This term describes the permission settings assigned to a Key. Access levels are assigned at Account level, and not at bucket or file level.

  1. Read only access (Read) - allowing the user to view all files uploaded to the associated buckets.

  2. Read & Write access (Full) - allowing the user to view, and edit files uploaded to the associated buckets.

  3. Master access (Master) - allowing the user administrative rights: read, write and edit access to all files uploaded to the associated buckets.

A

ACCESS KEYS

These keys allow you as the bucket owner to control access to your buckets. You can create keys at different security levels, allowing Read, Write or Full access. After generating these keys, they must be associated to the buckets. When you share these keys with other users / systems, they will have access to the content in all the associated buckets at the relevant security level which is linked to that key. Be careful to share a key with Master Access levels, since this will allow that user full administrative rights on the content in that bucket!

D

DNS

Abbreviation for Domain Name System. A domain is a unique string (bucketname.bigstorage.io) associated with an IP address. An IP address is a string of numbers used to identify a computer or resource on a network or internet. The Domain Name System (DNS) is a network of directories on the internet used to resolve host names (e.g. http://www.bucketname.bigstorage.io) into machine-readable IP addresses (e.g. 192.168.106.81).

Every computer, node, device or resource on the internet has a unique name and unique IP address. There are millions of such devices or resources. Computers communicate on the internet using the machine-readable IP addresses. Imagine if we needed to remember the IP addresses of all the pages we needed to visit or the resources we needed to access. Browsing the internet would be anything but fun.

Well, the DNS is what makes our lives so easy. It makes navigating this complex network of IP addresses user-friendly. It is the internet's address book/directory. It is the footman of our internet requests! The World Wide Web depends on the DNS to function as we know it today. Yes! DNS is that important!
